Railway Network

Nanchang connects to Shanghai-Kunming High-speed Rail and Nanchang-Jiujiang Intercity Rail, also having Shanghai-Kunming, Beijing-Kowloon and Xiangtang-Putian Railways, as well as west ring line of the hub. Nanchang-Ji’an-Ganzhou High-speed Rail and Nanchang-Jingdezhen-Huangshan Railway are also under construction, which is an important railway transport hub. In the future, Nanchang will plan to form “three major” passenger terminal layout of Nanchang Railway Station, Nanchangxi Railway Station and Nanchangdong Railway Station, gradually forming ring-type radial-pattern railroad junction connecting to such six directions as Changsha, Hangzhou, Fuzhou, Jiujiang, Ganzhou and Huangshan and such 8 main lines as Shanghai-Kunming, Nanchang-Ji’an-Ganzhou, Nanchang-Jingdezhen-Huangshan, Nanchang-Jiujiang High-speed Rail, Nanchang-Jiujiang Intercity Rail, Xiangtang-Putian, Beijing-Kowloon and Shanghai-Kunming Railways. The following has been realized at present with the constantly perfecting surrounding road network:

※ Northward—Beijing:  it takes about 6 hours and 17 minutes from Nanchang to Beijing

※ Eastward—Hangzhou, Shanghai:  it takes about 2 hours and 13 minutes from Nanchang to Hangzhou, and 3 hours and 3 minutes to Shanghai

※ Southward—Guangzhou, Shenzhen: it takes about 3 hours and 47 minutes from Nanchang to Guangzhou, and 4 hours and 31 minutes to Shenzhen

※ Westward—Changsha, Chengdu: it takes about 1 hour and 21 minutes from Nanchang to Changsha, and 8 hours and 46 minutes to Chengdu

※ Southeastward—Fuzhou, Xiamen:  it takes about 2 hours and 49 minutes from Nanchang to Fuzhou, and 4 hours and 20 minutes to Xiamen

Highway Network

Nanchang has 30 highways, with a total mileage of 987.456 kilometers, including 5 national highways with a mileage of 285.353 kilometers and 23 provincial highways with a mileage of 702.103 kilometers. Such expressways as Gan-Yue, Jing-Fu, Chang-Jiu, Chang-Zhang, Wen-Hou, Li-Wen, De-Chang, and etc. and three national highways as 105 (Jing-Zhu), 316 (Fu-Lan) and 320 (Hu-Kun) interchange in Nanchang; it takes only 6 hours to get Shanghai, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Fujian, Hubei, Hunan, Anhui and other surrounding provinces from Nanchang, forming a “six-hour economic circle” with Nanchang being the center, in which gathers over one third of the national population and creates over one half of the national economic aggregate. The fast transport network in the city has taken its initial shape setting Changdong Avenue, Shengmi Bridge, city high-speed outer ring and Changwan Avenue as key points; highways in municipal districts have also formed a network, taking about half an hour to municipal central town. With the opening to traffic of mainline viaduct of Hongdu Avenue, Nanchang is about to usher the era of “one ring”.

Subway Construction

The planning for rail transit network in Nanchang appears grid + radial structure, comprised of 5 lines, with the total length of 198km, having 146 stations. Lines 1, 2, 3 and 4 form a “matts” in old city center, appearing central radial pattern integrally, supporting the development of the center and the connection between central city and periphery area; Line 5 is the half-ring line mainly serving periphery area, leading the development of periphery area. The Phase 1 project of Line 1 covers a total length of 28.8km and establishes 24 stations; it has been completed and opened to traffic at the end of 2015. The Phase 1 project of Line 2 and its extended line cover a total length of 31.2km and establish 28 stations, 17 of which were opened for trial operation in August 2017, and the rest 11 stations will be opened for trial operation in the first half of 2019. Line 3 covers a total length of 28.5km and establishes 22 stations, the construction of which was commenced in December 2015. Line 4 covers a total length of 39.6km and establishes 29 stations, the construction of which was commenced in December 2017.

Aviation Construction

Nanchang Changbei International Airport is 4E level, only 30 minutes away from downtown. The new airport terminal covers an area of 97,000m2 with 45 aircraft stands, able to take off and land with full weight large-scale passenger aircraft like Boeing 747 and etc., meeting the demand of passenger traffic volume of 12 million annually. Based on Nanchang Changbei International Airport, Nanchang aviation port opens to the outside world, having opened a lot of airlines leading to major cities and regions at home and abroad. In 2018, Nanchang Changbei International Airport opened 161 air routes in total, successively navigable to 83 cities, including 12 internationally navigable cities, 3 regional cities and 68 domestic cities. In terms of international air routes, Nanchang for the first time opened international flights directly from Nanchang to Russia, Singapore, Chiengmai of Thailand in 2018, and the flight from Nanchang to Hong Kong has been increased to once every year.

In 2018, the passenger throughout in Nanchang Changbei International Airport achieved 13.524 million persons, increasing 23.7% year on year, creating a new high in the history; cargo vessel handling capacity reached 82600 tons, increasing 58.1% year on year; the flights reached 107400, increasing 21.2% year on year; the increase rate of annual transportation flights and passenger throughout ranks in the forefront among national ten-million-level airports.

Water Transportation

Nanchang Port is located in the lower reaches of Ganjiang River, and is the intersection of Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and Southeast Fujian Delta. It is connected to Fuhe River, Xinjiang River, Raohe River and Xiuhe River as well as Poyang Lake, entering Yangtze River via Hukou, is the important water and land transportation hub in Jiangxi, it may carry out river-sea transportation with coastal regions like Shanghai. Currently, Nanchang to Hukou is second-class channel, available for the navigation of thousand-ton-level ships, with quite superior water transport advantages, and it is one of 28 national major inland ports. There are 45 wharfs, 99 berths and 99 loading and unloading machines. The cargo handling capacity completed in the port in 2018 reached 28.835 million tons; container handling capacity completed reached 193079 TEUs, increasing 44.83% year on year; volume of freight traffic completed 11231 thousand tons, and rotation volume of goods transport realized 4240.8 million tons/km.

Port Platform

Nanchang Integrated Bonded Zone: The State Council issued Official Reply of the State Council on Integrating and Optimizing Nanchang Export Processing Zone to Integrated Bonded Zone (G.H.[2016]No.38) on February 9, 2016, marking the official establishment upon approval of Nanchang Integrated Bonded Zone, with total planned area of 41 thousand km2, including 2km2 for customs special supervision area. Nanchang Integrated Bonded Zone consists of one zone and two parts. Part One of 0.285km2 is located in Nanchang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone, upgraded and reconstructed from the Area A of original Nanchang Export Processing Zone; Part Two of 1.63km2 is located in the hinterland of Ganjiang New Area. Nanchang Integrated Bonded Zone will be built into an industrial hinterland for the national “the Belt and Road” Initiative, the open hub in Yangtze River Economic Belt, and the strategic pivot for provincial and municipal development and opening-up, building international rules docking platform, full-function trade service and public technology platform, domestic and foreign advanced industry transformation platform and system and mechanism innovation platform via the construction of national first “inland service platform type” integrated bonded zone, carrying out such five major industries as bonded processing manufacturing industry, bonded service trade industry, bonded logistics industry, bonded aviation industry and bonded finance, setting foot in integrated bonded service, serving the whole provide, connecting to free trade, becoming an important connection point, strategic intersection, great passage for the north and south and reform experimental field for regional development and opening-up.

Sea-Railway Combined Transportation: Railway port operation area of Nanchangbei Station and 933 Good Yards of Jiangxi Reserve Supplies Administration (Nanchang County) have opened international container sea-railway combined transportation trains from Nanchang to Shenzhen (Hong Kong), Nanchang to Xiamen, Nanchang to Ningbo and Nanchang to Fuzhou; the above trains enjoy 15%-50% discount for freight offered by railway department. In 2018, Nanchang sea-railway combined transportation completed 19008 TEUs for foreign trade import and export, increasing 55.07% year on year.

In April 2018, Nanchang (Henggang Station)-Moscow International freight train achieved first launching, and 24 trains had been successfully run in 2018, realizing 2000 TEUs for foreign trade import and export accumulatively, with cargo value exceeding 110 million dollars. On January 5, 2019, the train officially became a fixed schedule, with train number of X8218. The running of the train will provide import and export enterprises with high-quality and stable running service. In March 2019, the “Jiangxi” international import train officially set sail, marking the successful running of Nanchang-Belarus “point to point” two-way international freight train.
